Grammatica I.
Name for differentiate Genere/Gender/sex (Feminine or Masculine)
and Numero (Singular and Plural)


A. In Italian, name of words are feminine or masculine.

1. Masculine usually will be ended with vocal “O” but not always because it can be ended with “E” or “A” (Rare)
Esempio: IL Pranzo (Lunch), IL Vino (The Wine)
IL Cinema (The Cinema), IL Papa, IL Pane
2. Feminine usually will be ended with vocal “A” also sometimes will be ended with “O” (Rare)
Esempio: La Cena ( Dinner), La Acqua (The Water)
La Mano (Hand), La Foto (Photo), La Radio
NB: Open your dictionary for know the Gender (Sex) name of the word.

*). The name of words that ended with “E” usually or majority is Masculine but sometimes is feminine (Open for dictionary to give some vocabulary).
NB: Some feminine words usually ended with “-Ione” although in “-Sione” or “-Zione” because both of them is “-Ione” form.


Esempio: * Masculine : IL Latte (The Milk), IL Pane (The Bread)
* Feminine : La Carne (The Meat), La Notte (Night), La Colazione (Breakfast),
La Televisione (The Television)

*). Name of words that come from foreigner language (English) usually is Masculine.
Esempio: IL Sport, IL Yogurt, IL Computer, IL Bar

B. Numero (Singular and Plural)

NB: - Masculine : 1. When Singular word ended with “O” ----> The Plural is “i”
2. When Singular word ended with “-io” -----> The Plural is “i”
3. When Singular word ended with “-a” ------> The Plural is “-i”
4. When Sngular word ended with “-co” & “-go” -->The Plural is “-chi” &“-ghi”
But when they meet with (Vocal + “-co” & “-go”) --> Plural “-ci” & “-gi”

- Feminine : 1. When Singular word ended with “-a” ----> The Plural is “-e”
2. When Sngular word ended with “-ca” & “-ga” -->The Plural is“-che”& “-ghe”
- Both of Them: 1. When Sngular word ended with “-e” ---> The Plural is “-i”
2. When sngular word ended with:
* (Consonant + “-cia” “-gia”) --> Plural “-ce” “-ge”.
* (Vowel/Vocal + “-cia” “-gia”) --> Plural “-cie” “-gie”
3. When Singular word is foreigner or ended with vocal Accento --> Plural form is
same with the singular (Not Change)
